Stress measurement on large components

The positioning of X-ray equipment for measurement of residual stresses, on large or complicated components, can very often be extremely challenging and sometimes impossible. Stresstech Oy has now developed a "Xstress Robot " system which can move the X-ray goniometer in all directions easily and accurately. The robot provides more freedom and automation than traditional manipulators, taking on the roles of the manipulator, X-Y unit and rotating table of the diffractometer all at the same time. Automating of all movements e.g. for mapping purposes, is now easy with the Xstress Robot. In addition, testing is currently being undertaken at Stresstech to enable the robot to work as the gonomioeter, instead of carrying it, and this kind of configuration will add even more freedom to the accessibility of the equipment. This type of system is due to be available during 2010.
